Rollでは画家の吉田卓矢と彫刻家の吉田みなみによる2人展を開催します。17歳からの11年間、アメリカで美術を学んだ吉田卓矢が描く絵画は、どこか異国を連想させる物語性と独自の色彩感覚を持ち合わせており、その伸び伸びとした画面からは心象風景としてのユートピアを私たちに想像させてくれます。一方、吉田みなみの彫刻は、リアリティを持った存在としての具象を備え持ち、目の前で起こっている些細な出来事や感情の変化をその形と質量に閉じ込め、現実の中に潜んでいるこの世界の美しさを私たちに想起させてくれます。

“we water”と題した本展では、創造と生命の源である水をテーマに制作した新作を展示、販売します。一年を通して自然豊かな北海道蘭越町で暮らしながら、アトリエで日々作品制作に取り組み続けている2人の最新展にどうぞご期待ください。初日には吉田卓矢と吉田みなみが在廊しみなさまをお迎えいたします。

 

プロフィール：

吉田卓矢 | Takuya Yoshida
1986年東京生まれ。幼少期は埼玉県の住宅街で育ち、自分の身の周りにはなかった自然に憧れながら育つ。17歳の時にアメリカのメイン州の高校に単身で留学、その後ニューハンプシャー州の大学で美術を学び、ニューヨークにある大学院で油絵を学ぶ。帰国後、北海道に移住し自然に囲まれた環境で日々油絵の制作を行い、精力的に国内外で発表をしている。吉田の絵画は日常で感じる平和的な瞬間や幼少期に得た教訓を組み合わせ再構築している。時間軸にとらわれず、あらゆる場面を一つの絵にすることで懐かしさや普遍的な生きる意味を表現している。制作中、絵を削り上塗りしていくうちに絵肌はザラザラとしたものになる。それは、人がそれぞれの時間を重ねていくうちにできる美しい肌の皴と同じといえよう。哲学的思想から生まれるポエティックな吉田の絵画は見る者に生きる喜びや勇気、子ども心を思い出させる。それは都会から離れた広大な地で、人々の心に残る作品づくりを孤高に挑戦をしているからだろう。個展、グループ展多数。その他、2014年“Hohenberg Travel Award”/NEW YORK、2022年“Phillips Exeter Academy” America/Award, Artist residence等。https://yotakpainting.com

 

吉田みなみ | Minami Yoshida
1993年 北海道札幌市生まれ。2016年 東京造形大学造形学部美術学科彫刻專攻卒業。美術科がある中高一貫校へ進学後、油絵や彫刻などアカデミックな教育を受けながら、高校一年の時に初個展を札幌で開催。17歳のときに起こった東日本大震災ではアートで義援金を募るボランティアプロジェクトも立ち上げた。次第に平面作品ではなく立体表現に多くの可能性を感じ、人体彫刻を学ぶため東京造形大学に進学。卒業後、画家の吉田卓矢と結婚し共同アトリエを構えるためニセコ山麓へ移住。2022年には北海道道銀文化芸術奨励賞を受賞。同年、アメリカ Phillips Exeter Academy でアートレジデンスも行う。2024年にNYのThomas VanDyke Galleyで個展。同年、台北で吉田卓矢・みなみの2人展を開催。その他、個展、グループ展多数開催。

Roll is pleased to present a two-person exhibition by painter Takuya Yoshida and sculptor Minami Yoshida.

Takuya Yoshida, who spent 11 years studying art in the United States since the age of 17, creates paintings that evoke a sense of storytelling a d unique sense of color, reminiscent of foreign landscapes. His expansive canvases invite us to image a utopia a landscapes of the mind. In  contrast, Minami Yoshida’s sculptures are rooted in realism, capturing tangible forms that embody subtle everyday moments and shifts in emotion. Through their shape and mass, her works remind us of the quiet beauty hidden within the real world. Entitled “we water”, this exhibition centers on “water” as a source of creation and life. New works by both artists, created around this theme, will be on display and available for purchase. Living and working throughout the year in the rich natural environment of Rankoshi, Hokkaido, the two artists continue to pursue their creative practices in the studio. We invite you to experience their latest work. On the opening day, Takuya Yoshida and Minami Yoshida will be present to welcome visitors.

 

Takuya Yoshida

Born in Tokyo in 1986, Takuya Yoshida was raised in a suburban neighborhood in Saitama Prefecture. Longing for nature, which was absent from his surroundings as a child, he moved to the United States at age 17 to attend high school in Maine. He later studied fine art a university in New Hampshire and. pursued oil painting in graduate school in New York. After returning to Japan, he relocated to Hokkaido, where he now produces oil paintings surrounded by nature and actively exhibit his work both domestically and internationally. Takuya’s paintings reconstruct peaceful everyday moments and lesson from childhood, blending them into single scenes that transcend time. His textured surfaces created by scraping and layering paint resemble the beautiful wrinkles  formed by time on human skin. His poetic, philosophically inspired works evoke joy, courage, and childlike wonder, perhaps because he has chosen to work in solitude, far from urban life, to create deeply memorable pieces. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions.

 

Minami Yoshida

Born in 1993 in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Minami Yoshida graduated from the Department of Fine Arts, majoring in Sculpture, at TOKYO ZOKEI UNIVERSITY in 2016. After entering a combined junior and senior high school with a fine arts program, she received academic training in painting and sculpture, and held her first solo exhibition in Sapporo while still in. her first of high school. At age 17, in response to the Great East Japan Earthquake, she also launched a volunteer project using art to raise funds for disaster relief. Gradually, she found greater potential in three dimensional expression and chose to pursue sculpture specifically , figurative work at  university. After graduating, she moved to the NISEKO area with her husband, painter Takuya Yoshida, to establish a shared studio. In 2022, she received the Hokkaido DOKIN Cultural and Artistic Encouragement Award, and participated in an artist residency at  Phillips Exeter Academy in the U.S. in 2024, she held a solo exhibition at Thomas VanDyke Gallery in New York, and the same year held a two person exhibition with Takuya Yoshida in Taipei. She has also participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions.
